-
- Jerry Armstrong and Shishir Shah met to merge their proposals on the SIM
- Module and Initialization. A copy of the preliminary document is included in
- the mailing. Jerry will develop a more comprehensive document for June 8.
-
- Ron Perry was not present but will be asked if he can complete a revision on
- the DOS OSD by June 8.
-
- Rick Tewell will concentrate on documenting the router functions of the
- Transport Module to complement the SIM and DOS OSD by June 8.
-
- The goal is to have a complete specification of what is needed for a DOS CAM
- at Cupertino.
-
- Tracy Murray and Tom Shea have found that there are several things which
- they need to know in order to proceed on the OSD for OS/2. They are going to
- put together a shopping list of functions needed. Tracy asked if Microsoft
- OEMs involved in CAM are willing sign their names to a letter asking that
- Microsoft respond. It appears that Microsoft is not anxious to lend sup[port
- unless CAM is something that their OEMs are serious about wanting.
-
- An OS/2 Working Group will get together at a time and place to be selected
- by Tracy Murray. Watch the SCSI BBS to find out where and when.
-
- The presentation made by Jerry Marazas on how IBM plans to use to support
- SCSI is attached. Jerry could not answer implementation details or predict
- when a product which supported SCSI might become available, but did provide
- a global overview of the architecture.
-
- Jerry described functions beyond those available in the Rev 1.1 of OS/2. Of
- special interest and concern was the added capabilities of the Interrupt
- Manager. IBM is going to work with the CAM Committee to provide as much
- detail as can be publicly made available until such time as products are
- announced. In the meantime, companies can approach IBM to find out if they
- can receive more complete support under OEM non-disclosure.
-
- Shishir described a resolution to the dilemma debated at the Denver meeting
- on how an OS-independent SIM could request resource allocation at time of
- need rather than time of request. Nested interrupts were identified as
- another capability which needs to be supported.
-
- Future Meetings:
-
- Air fares are the most expensive part of attending meetings, and in recent
- months we have all noticed a general increase in costs as the airlines cut
- back on their discounted travel programs.
-
- The airlines which have agreed to provide special air fares for all CAM
- meetings (as well as other ANSI meetings and working groups) are United and
- Northwest. Clint Ballard has arranged a special fare with American for the
- meeting he is hosting. The arrangements for each airline are the same.
-
- - Call a special 800 number which connects you to the Meetings desk.
- - The Meetings desk has limited hours, so no late night calling!
- - Supply the Travel ID Number for the airline you are calling.
- - Receive a flat 40% discount on regular air fares.
- - Receive an additional 5% on discounted fares.
- - Make arrangements at least 7 days in advance.
- - You can be ticketed by your own agent.
-
- Travel agents can use the number but they do not seem to like calling the
- Meetings desk - it takes longer than making reservations on their terminals
- and the airfare is lower (smaller commission).

- Our hosts are committed to a minimum number of room nights which are used to
- offset the cost of the conference rooms. Please make sure the hotel is given
- the name of the host organizing the meeting, even if it means placing the
- call yourself.

- Homework
-
- ATA and EATA are now included in a single document which is attached. Rev
- 1.2 added Sections 8 and 9, expands 10 and adds an Appendix.
-
- You did not see Rev 1.1, it was an intermediate revision which was updated
- by Tom Treadway to include information beyond the EATA proposal which was in
- the last mailing. We are looking for critics (some have already been heard
- from based on the documents distributed in the last mailing).
-
- A review of ATA and EATA is scheduled at Quantum on June 7, the day before
- the next meeting. Please bring 15 sets of comments for all to look at.
-
- Also attached is a description provided by Rich Moren of /dev/scsi. This
- should be read by all Unix afficionados, and comments passed to Rich.
-
- Enjoy your reading,
